What kind of background do I need to teach dual enrollment courses?  

  • For academic dual enrollment courses, teachers must have either
    • Master’s degree in the discipline to be taught OR
    • Master’s degree and 18 graduate credits in the discipline to be taught
  • For occupational/workforce courses:
    • Master’s degree in the discipline or subfield or 
    • Master’s degree in any field with 18 graduate semester hours in the discipline or subfield or
    • Bachelor’s degree in any field and 3 years of work experience in the discipline or subfield or
    • License in the discipline or subfield and 5 years of work experience in the discipline or subfield or
    • Recognized certification in the discipline or subfield and 5 years of work experience in the discipline or subfield or
    • 64 semester credit hours in the discipline or subfield and 5 years of work experience in the discipline or subfield or
    • Associate degree in any field and 5 years of work experience in the discipline or subfield. 
  • Please check with your local partner community college or university about their requirements to teach dual enrollment courses (more information below).  

What if I do not have a master’s degree or teaching license? 

Is there a certificate I need to apply for on top of teaching dual enrollment courses? 

  • No, there is no additional certificate that you will apply for. You are certified to teach dual enrollment courses through your local community college or university
