Back to School Habits for Success

It’s the end of summer, and it’s time to start thinking about the upcoming school year. You’re probably thinking, “What all do I need?” “Am I ready for this?” “Have I prepared myself?” It can be overwhelming and stressful to think about this next chapter in your life, but with these five steps, you will be ready in no time!

Time Management

With only 24 hours in a day, it’s important to get your tasks done in a timely manner. Students spend an average of 7-8 hours a day in school and then follow that up with homework. Of course, every student wants to have free time to check out social media, see friends, and participate in extracurricular activities. To help you manage your time, consider creating a schedule. Using a daily planner can help you plan out your days in advance and give you more control over how you manage your time. *

Organization

Not only does organization save you time, but also allows you to complete your tasks in a well-timed manner. Keeping your study materials in one place can also help keep you organized. Take some time before the school year begins to organize your home space for studying, and gather any school supplies you will be using at school! *

Good Study Habits

Starting the year off with good study habits is extremely important. Being prepared for class, completing assignments on time, studying a little bit every day (even when there is no homework or test), and reviewing notes frequently can all contribute to building good study habits. And don’t forget to use your time management skills to aid your study habits! *

Sleep Schedule

The average teenager should get anywhere between 8-10 hours of sleep a night, but the reality is that they end up getting only 6-7 hours per night. A good sleep schedule can put you on the path to excelling in school. Sleep deprivation can cause you to be less creative and productive. It can also increase stress during the school year and contribute to poor grades. Make sure you get enough sleep by having a routine bedtime. Set an alarm to remind you when to start getting ready to go to sleep. **

Read

Reading during the summer may not be your priority, however, it can help you get in the groove of having an active mind and help ease you into the new school year.
